Red Fingering weight pullover has begun

I'm thinking of spring as the snow flies here. We've had a couple of days of spring-like weather and now it's cold again and seems colder somehow. Spring is coming so I've decided it's time to start spring knitting. I'm taking the plunge and finally knitting a fingering weight pullover. So far so good.
It's a circular yoke pullover in Saucon Fingering (cotton/acrylic blend). Should be nice and cool to wear in the warm weather. See, so optimistic, it will get warm soon. I'm quite surprised that I'm almost at the great divide. It hasn't been too much knitting yet. I've given myself an interesting set up of increases to keep me busy and I'm looking forward to dividing off the sleeves. That's the moment when it looks more like a sweater. I'm intending to keep the increase pattern working down the front. I think I'll need the distraction.

Reading this over I see I have convinced myself that this is a lot of knitting. Preconceived ideas can stop this before it gets very far so I'm going to try to keep an open mind.

Have you knit a fingering weight garment? Did you like wearing it? Would you do another one?

  1. Fingering weight is the best for gals my Plus size, BUT it takes forever..twice as long as a Medium or even a Large. They look oh so much better because of the drape..but I dare say 1x/2x Plus size gals shy away because it takes so long.If a petite gal like yourself runs out of patience because the knitting time is long, just think what PLUS feels like...especially having to pull out for mods every now and again through the project. But, as I said..the fingering and even the sport weight looks so much better. But I am a woman of little patience all around, so I speak for myself only,I guess.

  2. I agree with the previous comments - fingering/sock - I like sport too - weight garments look so much better on the Plus Sized body than worsted ones. The eternal problem is the TIME it takes to make them which is where I truly appreciate making top-down sweaters in one piece. Being able to try on & adjust as one goes & not having to stitch everything together at the end makes a huge difference. I find it demoralizing to knit several parts, sew them together for a fitting, need adjustments AND have to frog & re-knit parts over again. So much easier in a top-down, 3 dimensional form that you can try on as you go which seems more like a sweater from the start!!
